To Live for Good

For him, being an embalmer is one great job not just because of the 20,000 pesos salary he gets per month but because of the help he gives to the family of the person who died.  His job makes others who were left at ease that their loved one is safe and in good condition even in the last moment of its life. “At least, nakakatulong kami na maging maayos ang huling sandali ng patay na.” he said.

To Live for Good

For the past few years, Philippines had evolved to numerous transformations that left us behind from other progressing countries. We, the Filipinos, were stuck with poor leadership, low-class education, slow growth of economy and most of all unemployment.

Jobs are the most important thing in every human’s life. It’s not just about sharing ideas and to prove one’s worth to his or her other competitors. Any form of job is a need.

Because of the fact that getting hired is one of the most difficult experiences one can attain, most people consider themselves getting into any kind of job.

Something different

Jonel Damaso witis an embalmer contented
what he has in his life right now because of his job.
A guy aging from his mid-20s was standing near the information desk of a well-known funeral chapel in Pasig.  He looked more of a student with his shirt, loose maong shorts and slippers attire. Until he said that he’s one of the embalmer of the chapel and that a lot of students were able to interview him because of his job.

“10 years na akong nagtatrabaho dito” Jonel Damaso said.

When asked if he was satisfied with his job being an embalmer, he said Okay naman ako, ganyan talaga para mabuhay ka.” He didn’t even felt frightened or disgusted when he had the training and started his job. “Sanayan lang yan”.

Almost every job requires patience, hardwork and perseverance for someone to be stable in living. But not all jobs can be done with just passion and determination because nowadays, you just have to accept anything to make a living. Besides “Bakit naman ako mahihiya sa trabaho ko, eh eto ang kaya kong gawin. Maganda naman ang kita ko. Wala naman akong ginagawang masama.” Damaso said.

To See and Reach

An embalmer is also open to opportunities like going abroad to earn big just what everybody’s dream. Usually, umaabot ng 140,000 pesos ang kita ng embalsamador sa ibang bansa” he proudly said. Then, he happily shared stories about his friends who happened to have the same job as his who are now working in Singapore. He slowly smiled and said “Pangarap ko din yun.”

For now, Damaso has a lot of plans in life to ensure himself of a good living. “Balak kong magpatayo ng coffee shop”. With his good salary and his sideline of doing autopsies in police stations, he confidently said “Kaya ko yun”.
